SCHOOL-BASED SUPPORT TEAM
The heart of our school lies in our School-Based Support Team, a multidisciplinary team of specialists working together to use and share our expertise to gain a broad understanding of each child’s unique needs and to offer holistic and integrated support to our learners.
At Cedarwood School, our learning support staff provide academic support and intervention in English and Mathematics, inside the classroom, in small groups or individually when required. At the College, the academic and curriculum support is extended to the first additional language and other subjects in FET. In the Prep, Reading Intervention using the Read for Africa Phono-Graphix Reading Method is integrated into the academic timetable.
Our on-site Educational Psychologists and Intern Educational Psychologists offer social and emotional support and intervention, as well as parenting information and talks. Emotional intelligence workshops occur in class, and short-term group therapy and individual play therapy or psychotherapy are available on the school premises and throughout the school day. As an accredited Educational Psychology Internship site, we offer updated Psycho-Educational Assessments in Grades 3, 6, and 9. We also apply for Accommodations to be used during tests and examinations.
Our unique approach to teaching and learning stems from an in-depth knowledge and understanding that every child learns differently. By working with our children in a stimulating and motivating way we aim to give each child the opportunity to learn, develop and advance towards their unique potential.
